Gov. Christine Gregoire will introduce
a bill that will allow same-sex couples to get married in Washington State.
Gregoire has previously withheld support
from gay marriage legislation due to religious beliefs, but has recently seen
her views change.
“The religions can do what they
want to do, but it is not okay for the state to discriminate,” Gregoire said in
a speech Thursday to 100 gay marriage supporters.
Neither the marriage for
procreation or the sanctity of marriage arguments against gay marriage are
legitimate, Gregoire said.
